A critical bug has been found in the open source software library for Internet of Things devices, gSOAP. This software is widely used from an electronics industry consortium ONVIF, exposing "millions' of devices from companies: Axis, Canon, Siemens, Cisco, Hitachi, etc.
Hopefully the camera lies behind a firewall. In any case, it's up to end customers to install a patch.
This is just the start of the complex nature of security and the Internet of Things. As security researcher HD Moore puts it:
"The prevalence of this vulnerability reminds us that without security for all the little computerized devices that we rely on," Moore said, "We are standing on a house of cards."
