Out of 8.7 Billion "Raw" Identity Records, we validated and authenticated 3+Billion, and discovered that 72% contained emails and passwords and 40% contained other personal information.
44% were found in underground communities, and 56% were from accidental leaks.
To share a fuller picture of what we see on a daily basis, we published the 2018 4iQ Identity Breach Report “Identities in the Wild: The Tsunami of Breached Identities Continues.” While other reports typically consider only data available from public disclosure and media reports, this report is based on 8.7 billion “raw” records we discovered in 2017. Upon further analysis of the data, about 3 billion records, which come from nearly 3,000 breaches, were confirmed to be authentic — not fake and not duplicates. These numbers represent an increase of more than 64 percent over 2016.
