Just last month, WellCare Health Plans Inc., a contractor administering Missouri Medicare plans, accidentally exposed personal health information for nearly 20,000 children. Yikes!

According to The Kansas City Star:

“Missouri’s Medicaid program, MO HealthNet, also informed more than 25,000 members in 2013 that their personal information, including full Social Security numbers in some cases, was mailed to incorrect addresses by another contractor, InfoCrossing Inc.”

According to the 2018 4iQ Identity Breach Report, accidental exposures have been a big problem in recent years. In many cases, these exposures can be attributed to human error, i.e. sending personal information to the wrong address. Minor mistakes can have major consequences. Handling sensitive information with the utmost care is vital.
