The costs associated with healthcare data breaches are more than any other sector, according to HealthITSecurity. Following a data breach, a hospital will spend 64 percent more than it otherwise would on advertising to repair its image and to minimize patient loss to competitors. Researchers say this could be avoided with better data security. “Advertising and the efforts to fix the damages from a data breach increase healthcare costs and may divert resources and attention away from initiatives to improve care quality.”
