Marriott faces a potential $123 million fine from the Information Commissioner’s Office, the U.K.’s privacy watchdog, for the gigantic breach of the Starwood Hotels guest reservation database, as the regulator raises pressure on businesses to comply with General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR. The fine comes a day after the same regulator proposed a record $230 million fine against British Airways for a data breach last year. Both Marriott and British Airways are reportedly contesting their respective rulings.
